: 1 📣EATING DISORDERS AFFECT PEOPLE OF ALL SIZES📣
We need to destroy the idea that only people that society deems as “underweight” or “skinny” have eating disorders. This concept of thinking is dangerous as hell, and completely wrong.
👉🏻”Eating disorder” is not a body type. Eating disorders have nothing to do with body type. It is a mental disorder.
The problematic assumption of what someone with an eating disorder “should” like is exactly what keeps people, who desperately need treatment, from getting it. People who don’t look “thin enough” to have an ED are often not taken seriously, or even refused treatment.
Anyone of any size can partake in restricting and/or binging. It’s not just “fat” people who have binge eating disorders, and it’s not just “skinny” people who have restriction disorders. 👉🏻Eating disorders are already deeply rooted in shame and punishment. So, let’s not create even more shame for others. Don’t assume others’ disordered eating statuses based on their body type. Don’t comment on peoples weight. Don’t congratulate others’ weight loss or weight gain. Don’t suggest your newest crash diet to others. Stop unknowingly fueling others’ eating disorders. Stop perpetuating the idea to yourself AND to others that you must burn off every single thing that you eat. (psst that is disordered eating)
👉🏻And to my #edwarriors, I know this time of year is extra hard with everyone shoving diet culture down our throughts for NEW YEAR, NEW ME. Please, be gentle with yourself. Set boundaries. Remember that you cannot and do not have to love your body every moment of everyday. That is not recovery. Feeling neutral about your body is a huge win too. 📣It is okay to feel nothing towards your body. Constant radical body love I not real.📣 If you are not hating your body, you are progressing. If you remain stagnant, you are progressing. Even if you relapse, you are learning, and will soon progress again.
So much love to all of my warrior babes.✨✨
